đ Let’s talk about a not very sexy subject
~auditing~
I used to skip social media audits when I was a new manager back in 2017.
Sure, Iâd skim over the account and immediately see some things to improve upon. But honestly, I didn’t dig that deep.
You are not young Shaylee. Today, Youâre going to perform an actual social media audit.
Before you can create a social media account that makes your dream client say, âDang, I need to follow these peopleâ and then âWait, I might actually need to book with them” three months later.
You need to know exactly whatâs working, whatâs not, and where your gaps are.
1ď¸âŁ Step One: Assemble your soldiers
Start by pulling up the following:
- Your main social media platforms
- Insights/analytics from the past 90 days. Most platforms will have this feature natively. If not, use a social media scheduler with analytics software (I use Metricool).
- A notebook or spreadsheet to track your thoughts.
2ď¸âŁ Spend 5+ minutes on each the following areas. Remember, dig deep!
âĄď¸ Content Performance
Look at your top-performing posts. What do they have in common?
Topics, format, tone of voice?
Identify the posts with little to no engagement. What might be missing? Does my dream client even like this type of content?
âĄď¸ Messaging Clarity
Read your captions, bio, and headlines. Are you speaking to your dream clientâs:
Challenges? What are they struggling with?
Frustrations? What keeps them up at night?
Desires? What solutions do they want? How are they asking for these solutions?
Ask yourself: Would my dream client say, âThatâs totally meâ? when they look at this post
âĄď¸ Audience Engagement
Review your comments, DMs, and shares. What kinds of content lead to the most engagement?
Flip it around. Do I ask questions or encourage conversation?
âĄď¸ Consistency
How often are you posting? Are you showing up consistently?
Note any gaps. What lead to these gaps in consistency?
âĄď¸ Your Call-to-Actions (CTAs)
Look at your posts and stories. Are you inviting your audience to take the next step and do something?
Examples: âComment below,â âDM me,â or âClick the link in bio.â
3ď¸âŁ Step 3: Write Down Your Insights
Now that youâve audited your social media presence, jot down:
Whatâs working (so you can do more of it).
Whatâs not working (so you can stop or tweak it).
Your biggest room for improvement (messaging, engagement, consistency, or CTAs).
đŞÂ Put your WORK into ACTION
1. Choose ONE small change you can make today to improve your social media presence based on your audit. Here are some examples:
-
- Tweak your Instagram bio to include a clear CTA
- If you haven’t posted in a while, post something today! Again, we’re starting small here.
2. DM me a screenshot or picture of your audit on Instagram. I’d love to hear from you!
If you have a question, please message me on Instagram! I’d love to hear from you.
