How to plan, manage, and execute a content shoot.

written by Shaylee Sundby, a social media marketing coordinator

Today, you’re tackling a skill that will level up your game: how to plan, manage, and execute a content shoot. ✨

Surface-level social media marketing focuses on content calendars and posting schedules. This challenge is helping you dig DEEPER!

In my experience, a 6 to 7-figure business has no problem with how much content creation costs. They have a problem if you manage things poorly.

Let’s avoid that, shall we?

1️⃣ Start with a meeting

You’re already familiar with your company’s marketing goals — but each campaign should have a specific objective.

Schedule a quick meeting with the relevant departments (marketing, sales, or even management) to synch up on priorities.

Ask questions like

  • What’s the focus of this campaign? (driving sales, launching a product, etc)
  • Are there specific products, services, or key messages we need to highlight?
  • What metrics will we use to measure success?

2️⃣ List it out, girlie

I want you to write a detailed concept and shot list before your shoot.

List it out by:

  • Content type: Product demos, testimonials, etc.
  • Platform requirements: Vertical video for Instagram Stories, wider shots for YouTube, etc.
  • Concepts: A hands-on product demo, a “day in the life” of an employe etc

3️⃣ Prep, baby, prep

There is nothing more embarrassing then filming a video and getting the “Your iPhone storage is full” pop up 😐.

Avoid things like this by

  • Confirming shoot details with whoever is going to be on camera at least 2 days before.
  • Pack your essentials the day before: camera or phone, tripod, SD cards, backup battery, lights, and any props needed for the shoot.

4️⃣ People want to be told what to do

People are looking to you to take charge and get what you need quickly so they can go back to their jobs.

Always start things off with a quick review of the shot list with anyone involved in the shoot.

This ensures everyone is on the same page.

Get the shot and move on.

5️⃣ IF YOU TAKE ONE THING FROM THIS NEWSLETTER, IT’S THIS

Once your shoot is done and you’re back at your desk, immediately organize the footage into labeled folders.

This step makes editing 1000% easier.

💪 Put your WORK into ACTION

  • Pick a business goal specific to your company
  • Create a concept and shot list around that goal
  • Schedule your shoot and prep your team according to the method I wrote for you above
